As an employer of a business you want your employees to be as productive as possible and one way of doing this is by blocking Internet access to non-work related site such as sites containing adult material and offensive material. As a parent you want to stop your young children gaining access to material on the Internet that is unsuitable for them and as a teacher you want to stop access to explicit Internet content as well as pre-written essays and exam cheats. All of these issues can be resolved with a simple piece of software.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Web filtering is the most widely used technological tool to protect against exposure to inappropriate material on the Internet. These web filters can be configured to deny access to a substantial amount of adult orientated explicit material from commercial web sites. However no filter is perfect, they can all have their downfalls such as over-blocking which is when a filter is highly effective at screening out content that it often blocks content that is needed.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Most filters have default settings, which block out anything that it feels to be offensive even though the content of the site could be completely innocent, such as a sex education site or an art site that features nude paintings, this is why it is important that when you use your web filtering software you alter the customised settings so that the content that is being blocked is stated by you and all of the content that you actually need is still getting through.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
There are many different types of filters available to you; choosing one should be based on which one most suits your needs, the most popular forms of content filters are as follows:</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
o Client-side filters = this is installed as software onto your computer and can be customised to meet your needs. This form of web filter also has the option of being disabled by simply entering a password, which will turn the filter off</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
o Content Limited ISP's = these Internet service providers offer access to only a subset of Internet content. This software carefully reviews and assess the web site for appropriateness and any emails or instant messages that are received are only from specified parties or other users of the system</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
o Server side filters = Users at all access points within the institution are subject to the access policy defined by the institution</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
o Search engine filter = search engines such as Google and AltaVista offer users the option of turning the safety filter on or off, so you have the option of accepting inappropriate links from search engines, the downfall of this is that if the web site address is known, access can still be gained.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
A lot of web filters work on keyword blocking and site blocking. Keyword blocking works on the basis of a list of forbidden words. With this option your web filter will scan emails and other chat functions for words that appear on this forbidden list.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Site blocking works on the principle of a black list of web sites to which access is not allowed, such as pornographic sites and sites containing other offensive material. This list is initially drawn up by your service provider but gives you the option of adding sites to it as well as taking them away.</div>

Take note of the following instructions to make you ready for your college admission essay!</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
In writing your essay take note of the following points:</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
1. What is the question? What does the essay require? Set a time-limit.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
More or less you should establish an idea. Don't confuse yourself with a lot of words and ideas you cannot organize and is way out of your main topic and essay title. Don't even show -off using highfalutin and vague words. Attack a question forthright and give the answers you can explain.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
2. Outline the details.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Here - be ready to discuss, explain, summarize, compare, or give examples. Go to the specifics, those the reader/examiner will easily understand. Highlight the significance of your essay.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
3. Organize your ideas from the outline.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
These ideas will be the body of your essay that would contain the development of your answers. Support your answers with helpful details, references, and facts. Professional advice and true-to-life experiences can vouch for information. Don't go far from the subject. Display of additional knowledge that is not solicited is a turn-off.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
4. Write a good beginning sentence and finish making your point.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
A good beginning sentence and ending sentence bring curiosity to the readers and examiners. These sentences are the principal keys for the success of your college admission essay (that you would pass the college admission essay test).</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
5. Check your work.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
See the spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Add and subtract sentences. Polish sentences and paragraphs. Clarify ideas.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Here's an example of a college admission essay question:</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Why would you want to pursue a college/university education?</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Answer: (in outline form)</div>

Beginning sentence: My future will depend on this endeavor.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Body/paragraph development:</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">

The Indian education system is known for its draconian board rules, which sends shivers down the spine of the students. With Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) functioning as one of the two most important Indian boards of education, things are going to be indeed very tough, after all, this is the evaluation barometer, which decides the fate of million aspiring students.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Having more than nine thousand schools affiliated to it both in India and abroad, CBSE lays down the syllabi for these schools according to the World Class requirements of the Education system. It conducts several vital exams such as board exams of 10th, 12th and medical, engineering and dental exams to name a few. According to the evaluating system, the CBSE exam papers are evaluated and marks are given which have worldwide acceptance in all major institutes and work places.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Getting successfully through these nerve-chilling papers is a tough nut to crack for every dynamic mind. Therefore, lot of preparation is demanded if one wishes to score brilliantly in the CBSE exams.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
A perfect exam preparation methodology can definitely do wonders for countless students. Adhering to simple and systematic rules can do away with the exam worries, which is a common sight during exam season. Among these, scheduled method of learning, revising and study on daily basis are the most significant rules, which one must follow if aiming for an outstanding score.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
The effort to emancipate students has been made all the more achievable with the massive offshoot of eLearning websites, thereby, complimenting the traditional classroom learning structure. The online availability of CBSE guess papers, CBSE model test papers, CBSE solved papers, CBSE test papers and sample papers etc. has made learning online quite convenient and comfortable in every respect.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Providing world-class tutorials on each and every subject and giving personalized attention to a student's academic worries has been the foremost feature of these online websites.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
With education being the primary focus, these pedagogical sites are always updated with what's happening new at the academic front...specially the crucial exam season, which tops the priority list. Giving students the liberty to access these vital resources anywhere, anytime as per their convenience further adds more charm and value to these instant learning techniques.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
And with so much of importance being levied on these websites, it's easier to get instant updates on CBSE related topics, which are mandatory for every student to have a knack of. Getting easy access to previous year solved board papers, practice papers, model papers etc., students really find learning online a fun time, since, it is instant, interesting, updated, and simple in nature. Who won't prepare for the next Board exams if given such a wonderful opportunity to study?</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Moreover, the recent introduction of 9-Point Grading system in the CBSE pattern has come as a relief for countless students burdened with the enormous pressure of scoring outstanding marks in the finals, which otherwise functioned as a do or a die situation up till now. With the law coming into effect from next academic year onwards, the grading system has definitely left all happy and surprised. Gone are the days of troublesome marks system! So, cheers to the remarkable CBSE makeover!</div>

A compare & contrast paper describes the similarities as well as contradictions concerning subjects in order to make a point about the way the two match each other in particular considerable sense.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
To compare objects is to search for uniformities while to contrast subjects is to check out differences. Oftentimes, you will notice the truth that you can't do one unaccompanied by another. To observe contradictions often necessitates uniformities in the beginning. For instance, to oppose two fruits you have to understand the fact that they comprise the common quality of being fruits.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Never dilly-dally to allude to comparabilities or variances although you are seemingly merely rolling out similarities or contrasting.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
The aim of the essay is not simply to affirm that two objects are the same or different however to analyze ways they compare or contrast and how come their similarities or else nuances are principal. To modestly say, "Digg is dissimilar from Delicious" doesn't give explanation how or why the diversity is essential the reasons for its importance. The compare & contrast paper must focus on the call for the comparison / contrasting instead of the fact of the comparison or contrasting.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
For the reason that the rationale are of greater worth than the statement, a compare and contrast paper stands for a beneficial method for analyzing subjects, be they food, innovations, or researching and writing styles. Provided you're requested to compose a compare and contrast essay, decide on the topics cautiously. Undistortedly anything can be opposed to everything else, but you would like subjects that offer you some foundation for investigation.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Start line for collation</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
First thing first, determine a basis of comparison, i.e. the joint element in the topics you are going to thrash out. To provide an example, although cats and dogs are differing pets, they both can be taught by their owners. Devoid of a joint factor, you would have no foundation for examination - that is, unconditionally no base of comparison. As you comparison/contrast, make sure that you examine the same elements for both subjects.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Topic-by-topic comparison</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Start in on by saying everything you have surveyed setting out the first topic you're discussing, next move on and assemble the whole set of ideas you desire to write about the succeeding question.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Obviously, the segments are allied by way of a transition piece and envelop equivalent things. To make it a lot easier for your reader keep up with where you're in the comparison/contrast course, you will have to make it a point that the transition sentences are unusually solid. Subject-by-subject comparisons are paramount for short essays that examine undemanding issues.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
In subject-by-subject comparison, you are likely to explain the former topic utterly then the succeeding. Have down pat, you are likely to build up the vindication of every topic argument-by-argument. Make sure that when you, the author, build up the succeeding subject, you organize the bullets in an identical grouping as for the first question. While you examine the second topic, you explain how it analogizes to the first.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Point-by-Point differentiation</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Rather than tackling arguments one subject at a time, you will want to speak about one spot of juxtaposition at a time. When you write a point-by-point differentiation, you write about each main detail for every one of the subjects before continuing to other central point. Argument-by-argument comparisons are principally practical for more puzzling essays which is where you discuss a number of differing questions.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
In every point, close with the topic you're stressing. This kind of organization gets result when you're discussing how individual bits and pieces measure up to a final end. On the condition that you are complying with a point-by-point format, organize the thesis statement so it heeds the order utilized in the outline. Memorize, writing the paper is keeping to the thesis statement along with your sketch.</div>

There are some features that are common to all good writing whether academic or casual-writing clearly, having an interesting premise and arguing persuasively to defend that point. But other features are distinctly different between academic versus casual writing. Knowing these differences will lead to success as an academic writer.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
<strong>Academic Writing is Scholar to Scholar</strong></div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
It doesn't matter what your educational level. If you want to be considered an academic you must write like you are one. This means you must write using a specific style.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
</div>
<ul style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin: 0px 0px 1em 2em; padding: 0px;">
<li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">You won't use the first person point of view so common in casual writing. You won't say, "I saw, " or "We saw."</li>
<li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">You will never use the second person point of view like I am as I write this article. "You" and "your" are distinctly casual and have no place in academic writing.</li>
<li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">You also won't have the privilege of saying, "I think," or "I believe." Scholars say, "Research suggests..." or "So and so writes..."</li>
<li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">You don't use words that suggest your opinion on the topic such as "unfortunately" or "obviously." In academia nothing is obvious and nothing is fortunate or unfortunate. Everything is presented in a neutral tone, leaving the reader to draw conclusions.</li>
</ul>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
The list of rules goes on, but these are the most important ones. You don't have as much freedom when you are writing for fellow scholars. You can't include scenarios or anecdotes. You aren't writing to entertain or teach. You are writing to an audience that has already proven it knows how to learn. It may seem a bit stuffy, but success demands you think like a scholar and write like your audience is also other scholars.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
<strong>Academic Writing Is Focused on the Academic Community</strong></div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Casual writing allows you to focus on anything that interests you. When you are writing for an academic audience, you have to write on a topic that interests your specific academic community. Or you have to address a question that is important to a specific academic arena.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
This differs from casual writing. You have to identify something that is relevant and appropriate to a specific academic field.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
<strong>Academic Writing Requires You to Present an Informed Argument.</strong></div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
While academic writing doesn't allow you to express your opinion about your topic, you still have to start with one. You must decide what you want to know about a subject based on your initial opinions. You start with a thesis, then go in search of evidence.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
You may find along the way that you have to change your thesis because the research doesn't support your starting opinion. That's okay. The process still helps you to put together a paper that accomplishes the two primary goals of an academic paper-to inform and to argue.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Once you have learned how to write for an academic audience, you will find writing for a casual audience is much easier. The ability to write on a personal level, especially the ability to use first and second person approaches, gives you more freedom in how you approach different topics. At the same time, the discipline needed to be a successful academic writer will improve your ability to writer persuasively and informatively. It is a skill worth learning well.</div>

PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
One of the biggest problems students tell me they have when answering Academic IELTS Writing Task 1 is actually putting all this language together to make a coherent response to the question.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
IELTS Writing responses require a systematic approach and I usually give my students the following two example tables so they can organise their answers well and achieve the <em>best IELTS score possible</em>.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Time period / Subject of the sentence / Verb to describe change / Adverb to describe how much change</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
E.g.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
From January to February, sales rose dramatically.</div>

E.g.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
From January to February, there was a dramatic rise in sales.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
From February to April, there was a slight fall in sales.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">

Now let's look at the individual columns in greater detail so that we can get more variety of language in our answer. I have seen many students simply write 'a catalogue of details' (and then it went up, then it went down, then it increased again etc) when they answer an IELTS Writing Task 1; a variety of expressions is necessary to make your writing more interesting and get a higher band score.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
TIME PERIOD<br />'From January to February.....'</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
We could also use the following alternatives:</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
</div>
<ul style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin: 0px 0px 1em 2em; padding: 0px;">
<li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">For one month</li>
<li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Over the next month</li>
<li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">For a period of one month</li>
<li style="line-height: 1.5em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">During the next month</li>
</ul>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
SENTENCE SUBJECT<br />When you describe change, it is important to be clear about what exactly is changing. Let's say, for example, that the topic of the graph in the two tables was 'cars'. We cannot say 'cars increased' but 'the sales of cars increased' or 'car sales increased'.</div>
<div style="background-color: #dddddd; color: #333333; font-family: 'Avenir Next', Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
If the graph was describing the increase in cars on Sydney roads, then we would say 'the number of cars increased' or 'car numbers increased'.</div>
